Attempted Killer Arrested After Standoff

An attempted murder suspect who was barricaded for several hours inside his residence in Bell Gardens was taken into custody by a SWAT team, according to authorities at the scene. Police were called to the 6000 block of Live Oak Street at about four in the morning to serve a warrant to Jose Navarro Jr., who was wanted in connection with a shooting in the city of Bell Gardens last week that left two wounded, according to officials in charge of the investigation. The SWAT team was dispatched to help Bell Gardens police after the man refused to come out of his house. The suspect’s brother was seen leaving the residence at about seven in the morning according to the police at the scene. After about a five hour standoff, police decided to fire tear gas into the residence and Navarro was taken into custody with the assistance of a police dog and was treated for dog bites. The suspect’s brother is only eleven years old and police are contacting any close family members that could care for the boy since the suspect was his primary caretaker at the time.
